Fractional HR McKinney, TX

Fractional HR for McKinney businesses that are growing faster than their HR

For small to mid-market companies, about 15 to 80 people. I'm based in Waxahachie and meet around Dallas-Fort Worth when it helps. The same senior HR is available by phone and video anywhere in the US.

McKinney is the seat of Collin County, and it is busy. A McKinney Economic Development Corporation board report in October 2026 tracked 70 possible projects that could bring up to 5,612 new jobs to the city. If you own a business here, you feel that growth every time you post an opening. More people to hire, more people competing for them, and more questions landing on your desk that you were never trained to answer.

That is the moment fractional HR is built for. I'm John Singleton, and I have spent more than 16 years in senior HR at companies like TCS, Coforge, and Mastek. Through Quick HR Solutions, I give McKinney owners a senior HR partner for a set number of hours each month, without the cost of a full-time director.

What it is like to hire in McKinney

The McKinney EDC's list of notable employers shows the mix. There are large names like Raytheon, Globe Life, Encore Wire, Simpson Strong-Tie, TRAXXAS, and Amazon. There are also a lot of local operators in the trades and services: HVAC and plumbing companies, roofers, contractors, linen and uniform services, and food producers. If you run one of those smaller companies, you are hiring from the same pool as the big campuses.

You will not win on salary alone. You can win on a clear offer, a fast and organized hiring process, and a first week that makes someone glad they said yes. That is where I spend a lot of my time with McKinney clients:

The Texas rule that busy McKinney hirers miss

When hiring picks up, the paperwork slips. In Texas, employers must report every new hire and rehire to the Office of the Attorney General within 20 calendar days of the date the employee starts earning wages. A good rule of thumb from the Attorney General is that anyone who fills out a W-4 gets reported. A company that has never reported should submit everyone hired in the past 90 days.

It is easy to do, and it is also easy to forget when you hired six people in a month. I help set up a simple checklist so that the report, the I-9, the offer letter, and the handbook acknowledgment happen the same way every time, no matter who is busy.

Pay, at-will, and putting it in writing

Two more Texas basics come up in almost every McKinney conversation.

Texas Payday Law

Non-exempt employees must be paid at least twice a month, exempt employees at least once a month, and paydays must be posted. If you let someone go, final pay is due within six calendar days. If someone quits, it is due on the next regular payday. Texas does not let you hold a final check for unreturned equipment or a missing timesheet.

At-will employment

Texas is an at-will state, which means either side can end the job at any time without giving a reason. That does not mean anything goes. Discrimination, retaliation, and a few other reasons are off limits, and the Texas Supreme Court has ruled against a company that suddenly enforced a long-ignored rule. Good notes and consistent treatment protect you far better than the at-will label does.

How we would work together

It starts with a free 15-minute call. You tell me what is going on, and I tell you honestly whether I can help and what I would do first.

From there, you pick the level of support. Plans are month-to-month with no long-term contract.

PlanMonthlyHours
HR Basics (up to 25 employees)$7504 to 5
Sounding Board$1,50010
Execution Partner$3,50020
Embedded Strategic Partner$6,00040 (operational support)

Pay-as-you-go work is $165 an hour for one-off projects. A Texas HR Compliance Audit is $2,000, a custom employee handbook is $1,500, and the two together are $3,000. See everything on the pricing page, or read how fractional HR compares with a full-time hire and with a PEO.

I'm not an attorney, and what I provide is practical HR, not legal advice. When a situation needs a legal opinion, I'll say so and work alongside your employment attorney.

Questions McKinney owners ask

Do you meet in person in McKinney?
Yes, when it helps, such as for a planning session, manager training, or a sensitive conversation. I'm based in Waxahachie and travel around the Metroplex. Most ongoing work happens by phone, video, and email with a same-business-day reply.
We are in Collin County near Plano and Frisco. Is this the same service?
Yes. See my page for fractional HR in Plano and Frisco. The work is the same. This page is for owners who are based in McKinney.
Is fractional HR a fit for a company with 20 employees?
Often, yes. Around 20 employees is when handling HR yourself starts to cost real time. HR Basics, about 4 to 5 hours a month, suits smaller teams, and Sounding Board, about ten hours a month, suits owners who mainly want a senior person to think things through with.
What if I only need help with one thing?
Then we do one thing. Hourly project work has no ongoing commitment.
